The National MultiCultural Institute (NMCI) is conducting a search for Executive Director to lead and manage a mid-size training and development organization that is focused on creating a society that is strengthened and empowered by its diversity. A private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, NMCI was founded in 1983 for the purpose of increasing communication, understanding, and respect among diverse groups and addressing some of the important issues of multiculturalism facing our society.
Through its Organizational Training and Consulting, National Conferences, NMCI Publications, and Leading Edge Projects, NMCI has been a cutting edge leader in the diversity field for the past 26 years. NMCI has been dedicated to bringing about change and social justice through its pursuit of excellence in its programs and initiatives.
The Organizational Training and Consulting Division partners with its clients to create and implement initiatives that maximize the power of workplace diversity; and NMCI’s biannual conferences include workshops on issues relating to diversity and multiculturalism with topics such as:
* Training of Diversity Trainers
* Diversity in the Workplace
* Multicultural Education
* Cross-Cultural Conflict Resolution
* Multicultural Issues in Health
* Working Internationally
NMCI also publishes books and training manuals on multicultural and diversity issues dealing with the workplace, health care, and mental health. One of its Leading Edge projects focuses on the issue of Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery.
Position description:
The National MultiCultural Institute is seeking a dedicated, committed individual to lead NMCI’s organizational initiatives in diversity and inclusion. This individual should be a knowledgeable, experienced diversity professional who is a self-starter, a strong communicator, and collaborative team builder. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for business development and marketing; client relationships; strategic communication; and leadership and oversight of NMCI.
Business Development, Marketing and Strategic Planning - Leads planning and implementation efforts for NMCI and builds and maintains relationships to support NMCI’s growth and sustainability
- Develops and maintains relationships with clients/funders/sponsors/affiliate organizations
- Develops and maintains organizational growth and strategic plan for NMCI, with specific action steps for success
- Seeks opportunities to attend and present at other conferences and forums to increase NMCI’s visibility in the diversity field
- Researches trends in diversity work to identify new business opportunities
- Furthers NMCI’s marketing activities and social media
- Promotes NMCI’s use of new technologies and presence on virtual platforms.
Staff/Consultant Management – Manages and directs NMCI staff and consultants
- Manages Organizational Training and Consulting (OTC) staff, including in the design and development of client projects
- Promotes the professional development of OTC staff
- Manages consultant pool
- Recruits and hires new staff.
Program Development and Implementation – Guides and directs design and implementation of OTC programs and projects
- Oversees OTC programs implemented by staff
- Acts as project director for major client contracts and corresponds with clients as necessary
- Designs and develops new services to meet client needs
- Facilitates on-site training workshops, leadership briefings, strategic planning sessions, and focus groups (as needed).
Conferences – Manages conference planning and coordination
- Collaborates with the President on design and planning for NMCI biannual conferences
- Oversees staff in coordinating and planning conferences (marketing, program planning, logistics, etc.).
Publications – Directs research, design, and development of new and existing publications and resources
- Directs research to design and develop new publications
- Authors new publications, online resources, and training materials (as needed)
- Oversees revisions and updates of current publications.
Finances – Responsible for finances, operating budget and cash flow
- Develops and manages annual operating budget
- Tracks progress of monthly cash flow
- Conducts cost-benefit analysis for new programs and projects.
Qualifications
Advanced degree or equivalent experience. The ideal candidate is currently in a leadership/management position in the diversity field; has the vision to develop and lead an increasingly complex organization; has excellent training, consulting and interpersonal skills and has demonstrated marketing experience. The candidate should have demonstrated experience in the diversity and organizational development field and a personal commitment to an equitable multicultural society.
Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of work in the field, proven management and supervisory skills, and be able to serve as an effective spokesperson for NMCI at public forums and other events. The candidate should also have strong communication, listening, verbal, written and presentation skills, and be conversant with social media marketing and the virtual world.
Additional qualifications that would be helpful, but not required, include: international experience, conference planning skills, authoring of publications, grant and proposal writing, knowledge of assessments including survey research and measurement, and computer-based training.
